"So many memories: a smiley fisherman's wife spotted us wandering around her town and offered us freshly barbecued oysters from her fire pit that were so huge, the shells longer than my shoe; lunch in a tiny restaurant, cooked with love for seasonal and wild, local produce; hunting down a zingy citrus fruit that only grows in Kyushu, used for its tasty pith!"

We purchased our Shinkansen tickets at Kyoto station, where we'd spent a few days previously, and shopped for bento box lunch to take with us on the train. A couple of hours later we arrived at Hakata, the main terminal for Fukuoka city.

AFTERNOON

We walked to our apartment and had some downtime before heading out to explore our local
area and shop for provisions.

EVENING

Fukuoka is famous for its rich and creamy pork tonkotsu ramen. We headed for Ichiran which is one of the most well-known sites.
