There’s no shortage of travel inspiration out there - it's almost overwhelming at times. What's harder to find is someone who has done the hours of research, got the local knowledge, created a balanced plan that makes it wonderful for everyone, and gives you the insights that people travelling with young kids actually need to know.

Welcome to Souvenir.

DENMARK

SUMMER LIVING MADE EFFORTLESS

When I fall in love with new places on our travels, I can't help planning a full life move there before we've even had lunch. The Danish ‘Riviera’, the strip of coastline a couple of hours north of Copenhagen, is one of those places.

It is low-key, stylish and beautiful without trying too hard: in Tisvilde, people wander into town for pastries and coffee in their dressing gowns after a morning swim in the sea. We hire bikes and cycle coastal paths, hike ancient heathlands, admire jaw-dropping modern architecture and stay in a traditional summerhouse. We emerge pink-cheeked from the chilly sea every morning before a leisurely breakfast in the garden. We inhale cardamom buns, stop for ice cream in every town and put our parenting to the test at several restaurants with no kids menu.

The Danes have an admirably balanced approach to life - not to mention a well-respected approach to raising kids. Time spent on the coast and in the nature that surrounds it seems to be the backdrop to its success.

For perspectives on exploring Denmark's coast with kids, take a look inside our Denmark Edition below.
