The London List: Rose Bakery, SW1
Our London List shares the good 'grown-up' restaurants that welcome young kids. These are our tried-and-tested spots for success: places with people who have gone the extra mile, who have patiently helped us navigate the stressful moments, who genuinely haven't minded a little extra mess and noise, and whose creativity and delicious food put big smiles on all our faces. Today we're talking about Rose Bakery on the top floor of Dover Street Market.

I don't know about you but when in central London, I struggle to come up with somewhere stylish, casual and high quality at which to meet friends with kids. Soho is packed full of excellent places to eat but they're often tight on space – you'd never get a pram in, let alone two – or too high end for an impromptu lunch after a gallery outing. Rose Bakery at DSM is my new hack that ticks all the boxes!
My friend and I arrived at around 11.15 with our two youngest in prams, both under two. Only a couple of tables were occupied. We folded down our Yoyos but if you have a non-foldable pram you could probably leave it round the corner where the WCs are. There were high chairs. We were pretty conscious of how not-obviously child-appropriate DSM is but our server couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. Although, when we chatted to her about our challenge trying to find somewhere chic and child-friendly, she did volunteer that it's best to come before 11.30 as the café gets packed from around 12.30 with a mix of local office workers and uber-chic shoppers: not a forgiving audience for our fish-finger-throwing toddlers.
The kids put away the sourdough with French butter and picked bits from our plates. Their squawking didn't attract any undue attention; however, the carpet of breadcrumbs and fish-finger batter under the table was extreme, so I cleared up what I could from the floor with a wet wipe in the hope we'll be allowed back!
Between us all we ordered:
1 x Bread and Butter
1 x Fish goujon sandwich
1 x buttered hispi side
1 x Leek and potato soup
2 x Coffees, and table water
TOTAL: about £60 inc service
