"Copenhagen comes alive in the summer. People-watching stylish locals with a quick glass of wine and some small plates at our favourite bar, while the kids play UNO, feels like a delicious reward after a day of exploring."

Style and swimming in Copenhagen

By Lucy, founder of Souvenir

In the summertime, Copenhagen becomes hands-down my favourite European city to visit. This Trip Kit shares the places we love and how to enjoy it at the pace that works with young kids: breakfast on a harbour jetty with your legs dangling in the water, and ending the day with a cold beer at the Islands Brygge lido while the kids paddle, the art installation we always go back to, an epic climbing wall (for over 3s), and how to do Tivoli without overpaying. We share our favourite wine bar, Copenhagen's incredible bakeries and a cosy tavern.

Four full days in Copenhagen, planned hour by hour: where to eat, where to swim, whereabouts to stay, what to do if it rains, what to book ahead. It's curated by Lucy, founder of Souvenir, who has spent several summers in Copenhagen with her kids.

WHAT THE KIDS WILL LOVE

  • Swimming in the Islands Brygge lido
  • The kids floor of Copernhagen Contemporary
  • The hot chocolate at Kanalhuset
  • The climbing wall at Reffen
  • Tivoli amuseument park

WHAT YOU'LL LOVE

  • Eating at the places Danes love
  • Soaking up Copenhagen's effortless style
  • Experiencing a relatively crowd-free version of the city
  • Pastries from some of the world's best bakeries
  • James Turrell's light installation

The Essentials

Trip length: Four full days plus travel days.

Getting there: Fly or drive into Copenhagen, then take the metro into the centre.

Getting around: We walked, used taxis and got the metro.

When to go: We went in mid-August and the weather was dry, calm and 20-25C in the daytime. This Trip Kit will work well from June - October.

Best for: kids around 3-12 years or younger if you skip the climbing wall.

HOW WE DID IT

Our 2-bed apartment (all details in the Trip Kit) was about £300 per night in peak season. The itinerary will work best from any accommodation in the neighbourhood we recommend, but can be adapted easily from accommodation anywhere in the city.

The restaurants we chose were in the region of £100-120 for a family of four with drinks, but you could prep packed lunches for several of the days, and opt for other restaurants. We chose to eat breakfast at our apartment and some dinners too, after particularly exhausting days.

What You'll Get
