Vol. 1 - Denmark's Riviera
Helsingør: Denmark's most underrated city
When I fall in love with new places on our travels, I can't help planning a life move there before we've even had lunch. Helsingør was one of these places.
We'd live in a traditional townhouse on a cobbled lane in the old town, enjoy exceptional pastries every morning (Denmark is not short of good bakeries but we found a superlative one in Helsingør). Weekends would mean the Culture Yard and the Danish Maritime Museum, both of which have spectacular modern architecture and lots for kids to explore, or sailing over to Sweden on the other side of the strait. We'd meet friends for natural wine and white chocolate & matcha madeleines at my new favourite cafe (and shop for handblown glassware in its store) while our kids played in the courtyard. Living in the shadow of Kronborg Castle, the fictional setting of Shakespeare's Hamlet, would surely inspire me to finally read it.
If you're spending time in Copenhagen and planning to visit the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, I’d highly recommend taking the train just 10 minutes further north to spend a few hours in Helsingør too. Meanwhile, you'll find me dreaming about buying that townhouse.
