ARRIVING IN BORNHOLM

MORNING
We had tagged on a couple of days in Copenhagen beforehand, so we headed to the airport after breakfast to pick up the rental car with car seats. We drove just over an hour into Sweden, to the ferry terminal in Ystad. You’re advised to get there half an hour before your crossing time but 15 minutes should be fine (don’t cut it any finer though).
LUNCH
The ferry has lots of seating, cafes and even a buffet restaurant which we chose as it was lunchtime. Adults are about £20, kids over 6 £10 and kids under 6 eat free.
AFTERNOON
Arriving in Bornholm, we drove half an hour to our first stay: a wooden cabin in a beautiful forest near Duodde. We dropped our bags and couldn’t wait to be outside among the trees. We followed a sandy trail and discovered the beach was only a couple of minutes walk - and what a beautiful beach it was. It was completely empty and the sea was so inviting that even though we hadn’t brought towels or swimwear, we stripped off to our undies and ran in.
EVENING
We walked back to the cabin, dripping wet, got changed and headed out to the supermarket for breakfast provisions and snacks and for dinner in nearby Snogebæk. We went to A Mare, a family-run Italian place with a short menu and freshly made pasta and a good tiramisu. We walked off our dinner down by the harbour (via the swings) spotting some folk enjoying their evening sauna and cold-plunging in the sea.
